Giant Apple and Pear Pouf

I designed these adorable hand-crocheted Giant Apple and Pear Pouf for a publication awhile ago and I’m so excited to finally offer them on my website. These giant poufs would make the cutest addition to a nursery — they are soft and loveable!

This is my style of amigurumi – xtra large!! Have you tried amigurumi? Amigurumi (Ami-gu-ru-mi) is the Japanese art of crocheting or knitting stuffed toys. Normally, one makes amigurumi super tiny, but that’s not a rule per se, so I just wanted to change it up! I love these super huge. It’s so simple to make different shapes with crochet and I think handmade toys are charming. They add whimsy to your home and they make wonderful gifts that the recipients will treasure. As I prepared the pattern for the shop, I started thinking about scale and wondering how they would look teeny?

One thing led to another and all of a sudden, I also had a Teeny, a Tiny and a Small version worked up. Four sizes in all! I love them! Look how fabulous the teeny versions are here in Valdani Thread!! There are so many fun things you can do with these – turn the Teeny Apple and Pear into a pair of earrings. Make the Tiny, and turn them into Christmas ornaments. Or, make them a little bigger, in Small, and stock your favorite little one’s play kitchen with fruit.

I also know some teachers who need to have a Small Apple to sit on their desks. With everything they’re doing to make this year go as smooth as possible for their students, I want them to have a little something to brighten their days.

The Teeny, Tiny and Small versions are available in a single pattern and each size is also available in an Apple and Pear Kit in your desired size that includes the materials you need, the appropriate size hook, and notions to finish your sweet little fruit. I love how the colors in the Valdani hand-dyed thread make the itty-bitty apple and pear look so realistic! For the Tiny and Small versions, I used the Flax & Twine Daytime Linen – the new fingering weight for the Tiny and the DK weight for the Small version.
