12 Best Modern Dining Tables - Life on Elm Street

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

I’m loving the look of all the modern dining tables out there right now, like this one from Rove Concepts above! We’re on the hunt for new dining room table. I love having a lot of great options to choose from. When we moved from Baltimore, our dining room table had seen better days. In our rental, and for the first year on Elm Street, we made-do with a small round “eero saarinen” table from IKEA. Dinners were tight for our family of five, which now includes two large growing teenage boys. Tight for plates, let alone how much food they consume! I’ve been hunting for some a mid-century modern dining tables ever since.

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

Our dining room has a combination of steel and exposed brick, as well as a medium wood flooring. I want something that doesn’t add too much confusion to all the materials. I also want to consider modern dining tables that have a clean and modern look with chairs that have a great form to them. If you know me, you know I always want things brighter, so I’m thinking I want a white table. But, I want the table to have an elevated dining room quality, and not just look like a kitchen counter on legs. I generally want a rectangular table that fits 6 comfortably and that could potentially expand to 8-10 people. Here are some of the gorgeous tables I found and where you can find them too!

The Sputnik

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

As a maker myself, I was definitely drawn to the construction and character of this solid handmade-to-order table. Crafted from sustainably sourced black walnut lumber, it has durability that withstands my growing boys! However, I would have to forgo my desire for an expandable table and decide on a permanent size.

Amsterdam Table

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

Constructed with elongated lines, this table from Sossego is designed with the brick buildings of Amsterdam in mind. In addition, the table top, choice of wood, and size is completely customizable. Sounds to good to be true, right? Well, unless I want to pay a lofty price, it unfortunately may be.

Tower Dining Table – Concrete

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

This table has a little more art deco feel, but the lines still appeal to my taste. Not to mention, the price is definitely preferable to the others so far. However, I worry that the elements of concrete and metal may cause confusion since my space already has steel and brick. Mixed materials is good, but that sounds like too much.

Lena Mid-Century Dining Table

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

Described as “sleek and simple”, this table would allow the lovely elements of my space to come to the forefront. I am especially drawn to the warm espresso finish that complements the darker tones in my exposed brick. Although beautiful, the fact that it only comfortably fits a maximum of 6 people means this lovely table is out.

Reeve Mid-Century Dining Table

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

All the elements- marble table top, pecan wood-finish, and brass- capped legs- blend so beautifully, I couldn’t help but include this in my list of modern dining tables! It doesn’t meet my needs for this room due to the size, but if I have a little breakfast nook in the future, this would be a contestant! I adore the mix of wood and marble.

Marcus Dining Table

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

This sleek table practically eliminates the need to ever have a table runner! Talk about easy decorating! Want a only-white table, too? It’s nearly a 2-for-1 since the ash finished “runner” is also the table leaf that can be removed. I love the brightness the white will bring, plus the ash may have light enough tones to tie in to the floor.

Oval Tulip Table

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

Crafted from Tuscany imported marble, this table passes the “teenage boy” test! The bright white finish would also bring light to the space. Nevertheless, the curved pedestal and oval table top, aren’t features I was envisioning. For some reason, I’m not a fan of an oval table.

The Zoe

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

Handmade to order, The Zoe nearly embodies all the elements of modern design I love! Just look at the clean elongated table legs! It is constructed from solid American black walnut, and would tie in my exposed brick and black steel in my space. An extra benefit? All the wood is resourced responsibly and ethically from the Amish community! But, I’m hesitant to go with a dark wood – I always want it bright and light!

Modern Dining Table

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

This table is constructed from pecan finished wood, and topped with a bright white lacquer table top. I love the brightness the white table would bring to my space in contrast to the exposed brick and steel. Since it says in the description that it could be also used as a desk, I worry about the size and sturdiness. Would it be able to handle the challenges of a busy family of five? With an ideal price tag, it could be worth the try!

The Santa Monica

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

Just look at that beautiful mixed walnut wood in this table! The combination of light and dark walnut is simply stunning against the stark white background in the photograph. However, that’s not what I have to work with. Do you think the blend would be too confusing in my space that already contains so many mixed textures?

Mid-Century Expandable Dining Table

12 Best Modern Dining Tables

This table meets all my goals: mid-century design, room to grow to fit 8-10 people, simple eucalyptus wood, rectangular shape, and beautiful bevelled legs that have eye-appeal without being too distracting. Not to mention an affordable price tag. But is it “the one?” So many gorgeous choices, makes it a challenge to choose just one!

Well, lots of great modern dining tables to consider! I’ve got my design cap on and am giving it some thought. Though, perhaps this table hunt is just a distraction to the work I should be doing. My book is due in less than 6 weeks! I better get back to it!!
